Title: The Contribution of Higher Education in National Development

Abstract: This article provides the background as to why tertiary education has not received much funding and results this has generated. It also outlines the contribution of higher education in capacity building and manpower development; Economic, political and financial development; equal rights and opportunities, research and national planning and the impact on society. It concludes by providing policy makers with recommendations to adopt new policy approach to funding higher education for national development.
