Abstract
The aim of the study is to examine how organizational performance is affected by employee
satisfaction in the NGO sector. In order to achieve this aim, two (2) objectives were set. The
objectives were to identify the factors that cause employee satisfaction in the Local NGOs sector
in Wa municipality and to analyze the relationship of employee satisfaction on organizational
performance in the NGO sector in Upper West Region. With these objectives, an extensive
literature review was conducted from which variables on employee satisfaction and
organizational performance was identified. The variables were subsequently used in the
development of a structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed and eighty-five
(85) was retrieved and used for the analysis of the study. The analysis was done using the mean
score ranking and the multiple regression analysis. With the first objective, empowerment was
ranked first and it had three sub-variables. They were; employees are given adequate education
and training to do their job; the organization allows employees to develop their knowledge and
skills; and the organization allows employees to develop their knowledge and skills. The second
objective of the study was to analyze the relationship of employee satisfaction on organizational
performance in the NGO sector in Upper West Region. In order to make inference of the
relationship and the extent of impact, the beta values, significance level and t-statistic values
were calculated using the SPSS software version 20. From the analysis, employees receive good
salary; employees get enough and fair compensation; the organization has good reputation;
communication between employees and leadership is good; the organization‟s leadership
motivate employees to work harder; and employees receive good salary shown significant
relationship with organizational performance. With these findings, it was recommended that,
management of an organization must effectively communicate with subordinates as its serves a
source of motivation for work personnel, employers must be equipped with good leadership
skills to effectively motivate employees towards work satisfaction and management must
endeavor to ascertain the main activities that motivate their employees. This study was limited to
the number of dependent variables that could be used for the analysis. The use of the multiple
regression analysis shows that, only one (1) dependent variable must be used for the analysis
which limited the study. Therefore, further studies can be conducted to adopt the use of
Structural Equation Modeling to increase the number of dependent variables that could be used
for the study.
