Abstract
The study assesses the incidence of competition in the banking industry in Ghana and how Barclays Bank of Ghana has responded to it. Purposive and quota sampling techniques were used; questionnaires and interview guide were administered to staff and customers of the bank to solicit the views on incidence, causes and benefits of competition and how the bank has responded to competition. An attempt was also made to find out whether competition affects the bank in any way. It was found in the end that competition is very ken and BGL has responded to it by changing its strategy to include the mass market which was hitherto neglected.
