|Abstract: ||Electrophoresis has been performed on the hoemolysates of some freshwater and estuarine fishes m and around Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana. The electrophoresis was per-formed on the haemolvsates of Sarotherodon melanotheron (Ruppel) Tilapia zilli (Gevais), Heterohranchus isopterus (Burchell)., Clarias gariepinus (Valenciennes), Chrysichthys ni- grodigitalus (Valenciennes), Channa obscura (Walbunm), and (’arassius auratus I..
All the fishes studied had multiple haemoglobins. Nine haemoglobin bands were found in I. zilli and s melanolheron. Four bands each were ob-served hi C. gariepinus and H. isopterus. Three bands were found in Carassius auratus whilst Channa ohscura and Chrysichthys nigrodigilatus were characterised by four and three bands respectively, the multiple haemoglobins show striking similarities among related species but also display considerable differences among the different taxonomic families.|
