Abstract: | Fashion is defined as "something more than a designer 's whim ”, it is a reflection of the cultural, social, political, economic and artistic forces of any given time. In Ghana, the socio-cultural environment is supreme and can enhance the fashion industry to a greater extent. This paper underscores the fact that internationally fashion is a giant economic business, hut unfortunately in Ghana, higher education in fashion that could promote and develop fashion industry is underestimated. Constraints and challenges inhibiting higher- level education in textiles and fashion are discussed The paper examines prospects for growth, the roles of higher education institutions, industry, government and non-governmental institutions These would be relevant for a viable national and international textile and fashion industry capable of contributing to the President s Special Initiative and the A frican Growth Opportunity Act on Garment and Textiles for social and economic development of Ghana. |
