Abstract: The physical properties of cocoa beans are needed in the design and construction of equipment and structures for handling, transportation, processing and storage of the beans and in the assessment of product quality. The physical properties of grade 1 Category B Cocoa beans from the 2000/2001 harvesting season were determined as a function of bean moisture content which ranged between 5.67% and 23.8% (wb) Category B Cocoa beans are those beans having less than 100 beans in a lOOg sample. In the moisture range studied, the particle (bean) density and porosity increased from 946 kg/m3 to 991 kg/m3 and from 20 58% to 31.59% respectively white the bulk density deceased from 560 kg/m3 to 505 kg m3. The filling and emptying angles of repose increased with increase in moisture content from 23.7° to 33.8° and 27 3° to 37.5°, respectively.
