Abstract: An assessment of the physico-chemical and bacteriological quality status of the Lake Amponsah in Bibiani of the Western Region - Ghana was conducted. Water and sediments samples were collected, preserved, stored and prepared based on protocols outlined by (APHA, 1998). The parameters considered were: temperature, total dissolved solids, turbidity, conductivity, dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, heavy metals (PO43-, As, Fe, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Ni and Hg) and total and faecal coliforms. The levels of the parameters were compared to respective established limits mainly those by the WHO, USEPA and DWAF for both domestic purposes and aquatic life. Results indicated a generally poor quality status probably due to negative anthropogenic interventions through to discharge of mine and palm kernel oil wastes and dumping of refuse into the water. The situation demands a more critical attention by the Water Research Commission. Water quality variables were of all types namely negative, zero and positive.
