Abstract
This thesis investigates the issue of selection of the optimum band combinations of Landsat 7 ETM+ that yield better Ejisu Juaben Municipality LULC classification when satellite data and training area are available. The classes obtained could help in performing classification using Maximum Likelihood Classification (MLC). The Principal Composite Analysis (PCA) yielded better information about land use and land cover (LULC) classes. Tasselled Cap (TC) was used for image transformation and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) image was used to characterize green vegetation. All were used alone and in combination with original bands for classification accuracy comparison. The result from PC1-3, B1-4 and B1-5, 7 were respectively found better (Accuracy 90%, kappa 0.86), (Accuracy 88%, kappa 0.84) and (87%, 0.82). The PCA band combination is the best that yield optimum LULC within Ejisu Juaben Municipality.
