Authors: Boateng, Anthony Akwasi
Issue Date: 6-Apr-2016
Abstract: This study sought to evaluate the effect of computerisation on record keeping at Offinso rural banks limited. Sixty (60) out of Seventy Six (76) staff of the bank served as the sample size for the study. The main objective of this work is to look at the effects from manual accounting of record keeping to Computerised Accounting Systems (CAS). The focus of the research also include: factors considered before choosing accounting software, the cost-benefit analysis associated with the use of CAS, problem associated with the use of CAS. The research findings suggest that the manual accounting system were poor and the advantages of a Computerised Accounting System far outweigh its associated challenges as it has impacted the record keeping of the banks positively. Hence, there is the need for businesses, particularly rural banks to adopt a Computerised Accounting System. Recommendations were that all rural banks should make an effort to migrate onto the Terminus 24, a CAS that the government of Ghana has introduced, as it comes with added advantage to serve as a platform in which all the rural banks in the country are networked to each other to facilitate faster and efficient banking. And RCB’s should develop contingency plans that establish its course of action in the event of a disruption in the provision of electronic banking and electronic money transfer services. The plan may address data recovery, alternative data-processing capabilities, emergency staffing, and customer service support. Backup systems should be tested periodically to ensure their continuing effectiveness.
