It has been estimated that 80% of the total Ghanaian population have some form of oral health need, be it in the form of hygiene, maintenance or treatment of dental or maxillo facial diseases. Knowledge of the maintenance of teeth is very low in Ghana and most cases that reach the dentist are in the destructive stage. In Ghana, most oral diseases are preventable, however, the lack of education especially in the rural areas aggravates the situation. It is in this light that the Ministry of Health in its efforts to provide health for all by the year 2020, has proposed for all health institutions a certain level of service facilities related to the community they serve.en_US
