dc.description.abstractThe need for green construction has been stimulated by global concerns about climate change and sustainability. It is necessary to ensure that green construction projects are successfully implemented with the growing demand for green building projects. Therefore, since a competent project manager is pivotal factor for the successful delivery of any given project, it is essential to identify the knowledge and critical skills that a project manager needs to effectively implement especially in a green building project. In view of this, this study aimed to examine the key competences required of project managers in the green building sector in the context of the Ghana construction industry. To achieve this goal, the following specific objectives were established, which include: evaluating the level of awareness of project managers in green building, identifying the roles of green building project managers and identifying the key competences required by project managers in green construction. The study adopted a quantitative research approach and with the help of an extensive literature review, a structured questionnaire was developed that were distributed to collect data. The collected data were analyzed using simple descriptive statistics and the Relative Importance Index (RII) method. Findings of the study revealed that there is a great awareness of green building in Ghana, however, clients have pay little attention because, green construction project tends to be capital intensive than the traditional construction project. In addition, five (5) key competencies were identified and required of managers in green construction projects. The order of importance of the key competence requirement includes: environmental competence, social competence, leadership competence, economic competence and interpersonal skills.en_US
