| dc.description.abstract | The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, in 2002 introduced the collegiate system that led to the grouping of academic departments into six colleges with enhanced autonomy for efficient and effective financial management and general administration. Consequently, the Finance Office set up a sub- office within each College to take care of the financial management at the College level. To ensure successful running of the decentralised offices, there is the need for an integrated information system that will ensure data integrity, consistency and reliability for decision making. There is the need to provide enough computers to the senior and junior staffs to avoid sharing of computer time in order to execute their work. Though the colleges are linked to the University’s network, they operate without access to the main Finance Office financial database for the purpose of decision making. The dependence on communication driven DSS (over 65.6%) mainly by using telephone for communication can be shifted to other means such as internet, chats, instant messaging and online collaboration in order to reduce the cost of conventional communication and improve information sharing for decision making. Furthermore, the over 81.3 % preference for document driven DSS leading to most of their operations being paper-based can be converted to data driven DSS to enhance online data sharing. | en_US |
