The structural engineer has came to rely on the computer as an effective tool for engineering decision making. The design of timber roof trusses is one instance where computing facilities can be effectively utilized. This thesis is primarily concern with the design of a timber roof truss using the computer. The Pratt and Howe types of roof trusses are used as casa studies. A study is made on the suitability and vaiiahi1iy of locally availability timber species Turbo Pascal 5.5 has been used to develop the computer programme to handle the analysis and design of the timber roof truss. An optimization technique has also been included in this programme to enable the design of the truss to be optimized. Results obtained from the program are analyzed and converted into design charts which can be used by roof truss designersen_US
