The aim of the study was to assess the extent of impact of subcontractor risks management on quality performance in construction project management. With this aim, four (4) objectives were set which were to determine the significant factors of subcontractor risks in construction project management, to determine the significant factors of quality performance in construction project management, to determine the correlation between factors of subcontractor risks and quality performance in construction project management and to assess the extent of impact of risks factors on quality performance in construction project management. All the objectives were achieved through a comprehensive literature review and questionnaire survey. The review aided in the establishment of variables which were subsequently used in the development of questionnaires distributed to Heads of Works for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana. The analysis was done with 139 questionnaires using mean score ranking and The Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). From the analysis, it was realized that, relationship risks were the subcontractor risk factor that occurred most in the Ghanaian construction industry. However, using the PLS-SEM, relationship risks showed no significant impact on construction quality performance. Financial risks, resource risks, technical risks and managerial risks were the subcontractors risk factors with significant impact on quality performance. Technical risks showed the highest impact on construction quality performance. From these findings, it was recommended that, in the selection of a subcontractors (Domestic or Nominated), the technical abilities of the subcontractor must be given high priority attention because the study showed that the risk of low technical capabilities significantly affects construction quality performance. Furthermore, the study showed that good communication is an essential skill to mitigate the risks that may arise as a result of poor relationships between the sub-contractor and other stakeholders. On the whole, the study showed quantitatively the effects of sub-contractor risks on construction quality performance and a vivid relationship has been drawn between the two (2) concepts. Therefore, selection of sub-contractors based on price only can create numerous risks that can affect the quality of the construction project. Further studies can be conducted into the development of a model for sub-contractor risk management in the Ghanaian construction industry.en_US
