NTransportation serves as a linkage between the physical separation of human activities in time and space. The excellence of transportation thus consists in accomplishing this and with the least expenditure of time, cost and convenience. Kumasi is Ghana’s second largest city with a population of about 600.000 and an area 15.1 square kilometers. The three main elements of the transportation problem now facing the city are its growing population, growing spatial extent, and dependence on mass transit facilities, which pre-suppose making mass transit a viable service through which the city’s economy can be articulated. Mass transit facilities are, however, inadequate and unless the city acts quickly to remedy the results of past neglect and to provide for the further, tomorrow’s transportation problem is bounded to be even more pressing.
