- ItemThe Effects of Workplace Incivility on the Turnover Intentions of Employees: A Case of Selected Companies in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.(KNUST, 2015-11) Boasiako,Doris AntwiABSTRACT Workplace civility builds up individual confidence as well as team confidence. The respect, recognition and trust among individuals in the workplace, develops into cohesion which eventually results in productivity and organizational success. The study set out to ascertain the effect of workplace incivility on the turnover intentions of employees in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. This was an explanatory study which made inherent predictions regarding the effects of workplace incivility on employees’ turnover intentions. The population of the study comprised of employees of selected companies in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. In order for all cases in the population to have equal chances of being selected, the study applied stratified random sampling method to select 120 senior and junior employees of the companies studied and a response rate of 60% was achieved. Stepwise regression analysis was employed to analyze the data collected from the companies. Individual incivility, organizational incivility and instigators of incivility were regressed against employees’ turnover intentions to establish their statistical relationships. It was established that workplace incivility had a positive and significant relationship with the turnover intentions of employees studied. In addition, interpersonal incivility of the companies studied has positive and significant relationship with the turnover intentions of employees. Finally, incivility at the organizational level was also found to influence turnover intentions of employees. Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended that management of the selected organizations; acknowledge and attach importance to workplace civility issues; create appropriate avenues for reporting workplace incivility; and develop formal policies addressing workplace incivility as well as actively monitor implementation of such policies for consistency and effectiveness.
