- ItemA critical appraisal of the first tear foundation course in the College of Art, U.S.T. — Kumasi(1991) Donkor, Ebenezer EssumanThe First Year Foundation Course in the College of Art, U.S.T. — Kumasi; serves as the bedrock or basis, for the Bachelor of Art degree programme. It is a one-year common course in the foundation, aimed at giving the student, a broad-based education in art. Even though the students are supposed to carry the acquired knowledge in the first year, through the rest of the four-year B.A. Art degree programme, it is becoming apparent that this objective is not being fully realized. Also, no critical appraisal has ever been done on the course since it was established in the 1969-70 academic year to see whether it is serving its intended purpose or not. This lack of appraisal and evaluation has therefore become an educational problem. - The objective the research therefore stated as follows: 1. To evaluate the structure and content of the first year foundation course in the college of Art 2. To identify missing links between the foundation class and the rest of the B. A. Art Degree programme
- ItemThe Development of Personal Style in Painting – A Case Study of the 1989/90 Final Year Painting; College Of Art; U.S.T – Kumasi(1990) Donkor, Ebenezer EssumanThe purpose of this Essay is to identify, analyse and suggest some solutions to some of the problems associated with the development of a personal style in painting SCOPE The exercise involves a case study off the 1989/90 final year painting students – College of Art, U.S.T. – Kumasi. In the field study, four (4) painting lecturers and seven (7) final year students are to be interviewed by the researcher. Comparative analysis of selected paintings of the 1990 final year painting student – works form the second to the final year on: a. Still-still b. Composition and c. Figure Painting. IMPORTANCE Many painting students go through their specialization in painting without being able to develop a style of their own though, the course is also to help them find an identity or style for themselves. Since the development of a style is an important criterion in painting this issue become an educational problem. The study therefore seeks to identify, analyse and suggest some solutions to some of the problems of style development in painting. Points raised in the essay, if followed, will enable painting students have an easier way to developing their own styles eventually. By the acquisition or development of their styles, the students will not only have honour or prestigue, but will also stand to make economic gains, eventually after leaving school. It will give them the chance to have free and spontaneous expression of their emotions. It will also, enable the painter too preserve their identity for posterity as in the case of great painters like Fapheal, Picasso and Salvador Dali
