- ItemThe potential of value engineering in the Ghanaian construction industry(2005) Dzah, Bright DzigbordiThe dissertation investigated the level of Value Engineering (VE) in the Ghanaian Construction Industry, the factors that favour its application and the possibility of its application in the Ghanaian Construction Industry. The study further reviewed the essential factors in the successful implementation of the concept in the Ghanaian Construction Industry; as well as the possible effect of the introduction of VE on the traditional roles of consultants in the Ghanaian Construction Industry. Samples of clients, consultants and contractors were surveyed, using structured questionnaires supplemented with interviews with the aim of finding out; cost reduction methods and techniques that are practiced in the Ghanaian Construction Industry, reviewing the features of the cost reduction techniques to know whether the cost reduction techniques practiced is VE. The survey showed that the cost reduction practiced in the Ghanaian Construction Industry is not VE. The survey also found out that the introduction of VE into the Ghanaian Construction Industry will not have any adverse effect on the traditional roles of Consultants in the industry. The survey finally identified ten (10) essential factors for the successful implementation of VE in the Ghanaian Construction industry. The identified essential factors were ranked by respondents and the data were analysed using relative importance index, Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient, Kendall concordance analysis and test of significance. After the test of significant, six (6) of the factors were identified as the essential factors for the successful implementation of VE in the Ghanaian Construction Industry.
