Modelling the risk factors of neonatal mortality in Ghana using logistic regression
    (2012) Kwara, Kojo
The purpose of this study was to use logistic regression to assess and analyse the risk factors of neonatal deaths in Ghana and to suggest some interventions that can be used in order to improve survival of newborns in the country. Binary logistic regression was use for the presentation and analysis of data from the 2008 GDHS by the Ghana Statistical Service. Three models were developed each for mother level factors, child level factors and environmental level factors. The results show that, for the mother level factors it was found that the age of the mother and the wealth index were risk factors as causing neonatal mortality in Ghana. For the child level factors which included size of child, sex of child and whether the child was a twin or not, none of these factors seen significant as causing neonatal mortality. For the environmental level factors it was found that only the region (site of delivery) of the respondent was significant.
