This study presents a production scheduling problem and its optimal solution for Pioneer Food Cannery, a manufacturing firm based in Tema, Ghana. The objective of the study is to determine the quantity of goods to produce in a given time period that will minimize total production cost of the company. A capacity data for one financial year was collected from the company for the study. The production problem was modeled as a transportation problem and the QM software for windows was used to solve the problem to optimality. The results showed that the firm could have reduced the production cost for the year under review and still meets its demands. It is recommended to the management of Pioneer Food Cannery Limited to use the model to determine its optimum level of production necessary to meet a given demand at a minimum cost.
