The Impact of Motivation on Productivity: a Case Study of Fabi Timbers Limited Abuakwa - Maakro, Ashanti Region
    (2008) Yeboah, Eric Kwadwo
The study was design to investigate the impact of motivation on productivity, with the study design being administration of questionnaires to employees, from executive level through to the Managers, Supervisors and Junior Staff of Fabi Timbers Limited, at Abuakwa ~ Maakro, in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Among the findings were the following: * *, a) The research revealed that although Management of Fabi Timbers motivates employees through provision of basic incentives and packages, its impact on productivity was not as expected, except where everything else has been perfectly put in place. b) The researcher noted that employees reacted to motivational situations by having immediate response in job performance and improvement in their attendance. Where there is a change in employee's attitude to work, the researcher discovered that the driving force reduces in no time and the worker reverts to the old level of performance. Some recommended strategies were: a) Employers are to combine different and sustainable strategies to entice employees to consolidate their improved performance. It is therefore recommended that Human Resource Management framework and policies should stress on broad motivational issues like attraction, retention, expectancy, and respect for human right, skill development culture and organizational development for improved performance. b) It is recommended that desired behaviours should as much as possible be positively reinforced, with employees views given greater attention, for them to feel as part of any decision made. c) There should be proper job placement with the attributes of the individual being carefully assessed before assigning a job. This will enable the employee to function to his or her ultimate.
