    (1998) Assasie, Rexford Oppong
A cursory glance at the performance of the School of Mines, (I.M.M.E) U.S.T. clearly revealed that their impact was not being felt effectively. This was attributed to a number of reasons. Firstly, modern and permanent means of laboratory facilities were lacking; Secondly, the idea of shared resources thus between the School of Mines, Tarkwa and that of U.S.T. had hampered the growth of the Institute. Having established the need, the School of Mines - U.S.T. in line with the Ghana Government in a bid to harness the mineral and material potentials in the country The above intention has therefore necessitated the need to put up permanent structures on U.S.T. Campus, Kumasi under a new name tow it; INSTITUTE OF GEOLOGICAL AND METALLURGICAL ENGINEERING - U.S.T. All basic human and physical infrastructure that will make the above Institute wholistic in outlook will be taken care of in this academic but realistic exercise.
