Firstly, modern and permanent means of laboratory facilities were lacking; Secondly, the idea of shared resources thus between the School of Mines, Tarkwa and that of U.S.T. had hampered the growth of the Institute. Having established the need, the School of Mines - U.S.T. in line with the Ghana Government in a bid to harness the mineral and material potentials in the country The above intention has therefore necessitated the need to put up permanent structures on U.S.T.
