The role of rural markets infrastructure in the distribution of’ small scale industrial products: case of Krachi District in Ghana

In rural economies of developing countries like Ghana, markets serve mainly as centres for collection and distribution of agricultural products. In these rural areas, there are also many small scale industries which are producing agricultural tools, household goods, simple furniture and foodstuffs. Most of the small scale industries sell their products in their working site because of their low level of production and market infrastructure which are major obstacles to the development of small scale industries in these rural areas. This study attempted to assess the situation of these market infrastructures in Krachi District in order to make recommendations for their development in view of improving the marketing of small scale industrial products. The study was made through collection and analysis of primary and secondary data on several aspects comprising the typology of the small scale industries, their production, the marketing of their products and the role and support of infrastructure to the marketing.
