| dc.description.abstract | Many projects aimed at waste management, along with new technologies are continually being introduced in Ghana. However, the function of waste management is not a unitary affair for the company implementing the project, as there are stakeholders who may have vested interest. This research was undertaken therefore to assess the stakeholder management practices in implementing waste management projects. The objectives were to identify the stakeholder management Practices and challenges thereof, as well as propose best practices for stakeholder management in waste management projects. The literature review provided theoretical context on the subject matter, and the research followed a descriptive design and a quantitative strategy that allowed for the targeted of a sampled population through the questionnaire. Through an analysis of the data using mean score indexing it was determined that significant stakeholder management Practices included development of programmes and strategies, identification of stakeholders’ expectations, development of damage control procedures, adjustment of strategies and stakeholder identification. On the challenges faced in stakeholder management the study was also found that they included unclear objectives, inadequate engagement with stakeholders, lack of understanding of stakeholder issues, inadequacy of communications with stakeholders and insufficient knowledge of the stakeholder management process. Some of the best practices recommended for efficient stakeholder management include clear definition of project mission, clear definition of project objectives, setting of target levels expected of stakeholder satisfaction, identification of a clear strategy for implementing Practices. Identification of potential changes to the project environment and active stakeholder involvement. It was recommended that companies build capacity for stakeholder management and create better awareness about its need in the construction industry. | en_US |
