dc.description.abstractThe objective of the study was to examine the role of the headmaster as an instructional leader. The study used descriptive research design. Quantitative and qualitative research methods were used for the study. The study used questionnaires and interviews for primary data collections. The targeted populations for the study were the entire teachers, students and headmasters of Tepa and Mabang Senior High School in the Ahafo Ano North Municipal. One hundred and seventy (170) participants were randomly selected for the study. The data collected was first edited to check contradictions and ensure consistence. The edited responses were recorded and analyzed statistically using SPSS version 18.The study findings concluded that headmasters are sensitive to teachers concerns. Also, headmasters can assist teacher to deal with change in school .Moreover headmasters can provide feedback to teachers about how to improve instruction. In the study, headmasters can direct their focus on academic programmes. Moreover, headmasters can lead educational innovation at the school. Headmasters can encourage careful monitoring of teachers and pupils. Headmasters are able to involve teachers and parents in decision making process .Headmasters can disseminate information widely to all staff, students and parents in the school. .Moreover, the respondents confirmed that the relationship between the headmaster and the teaching staff needs improvement, the participants confirmed that the headmasters` supervision and improvements in students` academic performance needs improvement. The study recommended that headmasters at Tepa and Mabang Senior High School are sensitive to teacher’s concerns. Moreover, headmasters must provide feedback to teachers about how to improve instruction and supervise teachers instructional practices to improve teaching and learning. Moreover, headmasters must direct their focus on academic programmes and enhance students’ academic performance.
