dc.description.abstractThis study was to investigate CSR initiatives, practices and project implementation processes at GPHA. It was also to know the challenges that GPHA goes through in CSR project implementations. The study took a further direction to know the level of community awareness of where CSR projects takes place. The study took the form of a case study and survey to gather primary data from respondents by administering a questionnaire to 160 participants. These were made up of staff at the senior management level and junior staff level, such as Public Relations Department, Corporate Planning Department, HR Unit and the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit and also people who are directly affected by CSR projects in communities. Data were gathered from opinion leaders, youth and other community people. These helped to address a set of questionnaires tailored to address the research questions posed in the study. Descriptive statistics were used in analyzing the various variables used in the analysis. Majority seventy percent (70.0%) of the respondents had a bachelors’ degree. As has been in the interest of the researcher majority of the respondents being 78.0% of the employees exhibited an understanding of the practice of CSR. This is an evident that respondents have much knowledge on CSR practices and content of policy used in project execution. Though there were several challenges that were known during the analysis, among the top five as far as this study is concern were; lack of training, monitoring and reporting, Absence of systematic standard procedures for CSR initiatives, also lack of commitment on the part of those in charge of CSR projects and finally poor attitude of staff of GPHA, such as poor assessment. The study there recommends that GPHA’s CSR policy on practices should be well documented and enforced to sustain CSR projects and community confidence. Findings also revealed that, the community members are sometimes preinformed of impending CSR projects, and there are fewer numbers who are involved in decision making regarding CSR. Even though these were some major findings, the study concluded therefore that, GPHA takes their CSR activities practices seriously and partially follows CSR procedures in some cases.
